MVS Supplied 6 Generators to ISRO for its Mission

A large number of unspecified propellants (a chemical mixture that is burned to produce the push in rockets and it consists of an oxidizer and a fuel) have been tried over the years for the propulsion of the rockets but not many gases have proven to be an efficient one. In spite of all the technical failures and criticism it has gone through, Liquid Hydrogen has successfully proved to be one of the most significant accomplishments as rocket fuel. H2 is a marvelous propellant as it is light and extremely powerful. It has the lowest molecular weight and yields maximum specific impulse or efficiency when it is used in combination with an oxidizer such as liquid oxygen.

Though liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen are effectively used, they constitute enormous technical obstacles because liquid O2 and liquid H2 are both cryogenic (gases that can be liquefied only at exceedingly low temperatures). Using liquid hydrogen is not easy. It comes with numbers of precautions that the user has to take care of i.e. storing it at a temperature at minus 423˚ Fahrenheit, handling it with extreme care etc. Rockets that are fuelled with liquid hydrogen are cautiously insulated from all source of heat that it comes across during the flight through the atmosphere.

When the vehicle reaches space, it is extremely important to protect it from the radiant heat of the sun; therefore, to protect the tank from exploding (as hydrogen expands rapidly when it absorbs heat) it is vented.

After all the research and technical challenges, liquid hydrogen has successfully proved to be the best propellant for space vehicles. India, America and many other countries use them to serves as a signature fuel in some of their space programs.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has also used liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen to power the cryogenic engine used to launch heavier rockets. Recently, ISRO has made every Indian proud with its successful and seamless launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV MkIII-M1) or Chandrayaan-2.  ISRO has filled liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen in this satellite to get successful results.
