What is Nitrogen Blanketing?
Nitrogen Blanketing is a process in which nitrogen is added to the tank to fill out the space between the top layer of the tank’s content and the top of the storage tank. It is done to eliminate the presence of moisture and oxygen in the tank. Nitrogen is the most suitable gas used for blanketing due to its extremely low reactivity level with other substances. Also, it is readily available and at a low cost.
Benefits of Nitrogen Blanketing in Chemical Industry
1. Safety Benefits
Industries that are involved or exposed in processes that include flammable, combustible, or explosive materials must take care of the safety of the employees, equipment, and products. Using nitrogen for blanketing provides the most significant safety benefit to the users. Nitrogen in tank blanketing works as a shield to products. It protects them from coming in contact with oxygen in the air, thus creating an incombustible environment that prevents explosion and fire in the workplace.

2. Quality Benefits
Sensitive materials like medicines, food, and chemicals have a high possibility of experiencing product degradation when it comes in contact with moisture, oxygen, or contaminants. Nitrogen blanketing creates a positive pressure in the containers and prevents oxygen and other contaminants from causing oxidation or spoilage of the product. Hence, the result is increased shelf life.
3. Improper Handling of Flammable or Combustible Materials
Improper handling of combustible or flammable material is a severe problem when it comes to safety. Some industrialists have a false belief that their operation is safe and does not require any special safety precaution to take. Nitrogen blanketing of combustible or flammable products has eliminated severe fires and explosions.
We have successfully installed 25 Nm3/hr Nitrogen generator at a client’s site in Rajasthan that is involved in manufacturing pesticides/chemicals. The client was facing an extreme shortage of nitrogen gas for efficient industrial processes. Therefore, they choose us to install an on-site nitrogen gas generator for an uninterrupted and high-purity nitrogen gas.
In the chemical/pesticide manufacturing industry, nitrogen blanketing helps protect the products and equipment by reducing oxygen content in the vapor space of a storage tank and eliminating the possibility of an explosion.
MVS Engineering has supplied around 2000 Nitrogen Generators. We have an extensive list of Nitrogen Generators in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Food industry. For such nitrogen gas plants for your application, please contact our sales department or send us your inquiry.
